Industrial senior to play for Delta State
Industrial senior Jordan Chovanec is looking forward to becoming part of the baseball tradition at Delta State University.
Chovanec has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Delta State on a baseball scholarship in the fall.
"I felt like it was a good fit," said Chovanec, who made a visit to the Delta State campus in Cleveland, Miss. "I like challenges and playing baseball at Delta State, living up to the tradition will definitely be a challenge."
Chovanec played center field for the Cobras last season and was selected as the team MVP, while being named to the all-district and all-area teams.
Chovanec hit a team-leading .473 with two home runs, two triples, five doubles and 16 RBIs, while scoring 39 runs. He was successful on 30 of his 31 stolen base attempts and has stolen 52 bases during his varsity career at Industrial.
Delta State has made 11 appearances to the NCAA Division II World Series, including five since the 2000 season. Delta State won the national championship in 2004.
Chovanec was introduced to Delta State by Chicago White Sox scout Tim McMillian. Chovanec met McMillian while playing for the Perfect Game South Top Prospect team.
